HYMNS FOR WORSHIP

suitable for Twinning occasions

Together for Life

(a hymn written specially by Martyn Goss
for a service in Exeter Cathedral in 1992
to mark the Single European Market)

In our global search for freedom
Jesus' life will draw us in,
many tongues and many cultures,
come together - Adam's Kin,
not forgetting our beginning
made complete though marred by sin.

Europe is the home we live in,
making, sharing wealth for all.
barriers once dividing nations
now transcended, start to fall.
God's own plan for peace through justice,
unity becomes our call.

In our economic vision
we remember those who lose,
refugees or migrant workers,
smaller groups who cannot choose,
making healing liberation
central to the great Good News.

Let our European churches
Be examples to the States,
common roots and common purpose,
diverse gifts and different fates,
following a faithful journey,
hope for all the human race.

Pray that sense of shared belonging
lives throughout humanity,
grows beyond this Europe's frontiers -
Spirit blows across the sea,
making all the living planet
part of God's eternity.

God's Peace

(original by Menno Simons (1496-1561),
adapted by Esther Berger (1921-)

We are people of God's peace,
as a new creation.
Love unites and strengthens us
at this celebration.
Sons and daughters of the Lord,
serving one another;
a new covenant of peace
binds us all together.

We are children of God's peace
in this new creation,
spreading joy and happiness
through God's great salvation.
Hope we bring in spirit meek,
in our daily living.
Peace with everyone we seek,
good for evil giving.

We are servants of God's peace
in this new creation;
choosing peace, we faithfully
serve with heart's devotion.
Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace,
confidence will give us.
Christ the Lord is our defence;
he will never leave us.
